Five arrested over drug trafficking

AN GIANG — Border guards and police officers from the southwestern province of An Giang have arrested five people suspected of involvement in the locality’s largest cross-border drug trafficking ring. 

Investigation results showed that at 4pm on April 13, Du Quốc Cường, 29, residing in Nha Trang City, Khánh Hòa Province, and Trịnh Công Nghĩa, 41, residing in An Phú District, An Giang Province, drove a car crossing the border from Cambodia into An Giang.

The two were arrested when they passed the Đồng Ky ferry station in Quốc Thái Commune, An Phú District.

Police found 22,000 pills weighing 8.2kg of suspected meth and 18.4kg of suspected crystal meth.

The same evening, police raided the houses of Nguyễn Thanh Hải, 41, Nguyễn Thanh Phượng, 52, and SLiển Tuyên Khoa, 33, all residing in HCM City, for suspicion of involvement in the case.

The police found 6,850 meth tablets, one kilo of crystal meth and other evidence.

Hải, Cường and Khoa later tested positive for methamphetamine consumption, according to police.

Further investigation into the case is underway. — VNS
