The construction sector saw the highest number of deaths due to workplace accidents last year, according to official data.
It accounted for 15.6 percent of 622 deaths, said the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.
Manufacturing for construction and textiles were second with 10.7 percent of fatalities, followed by mining with 10.6 percent.
While the number of workplace accidents dropped by 8.5 percent from 2017 to 7,090, the number of injured women workers increased by 6.9 percent to 2,489.
Forty six percent of workplace accidents occurred due to employers’ faults such as not creating a safe working procedures or not providing safety training or equipment.
Accidents also caused loss to property of VND5 billion ($215,400) in 2018.
