Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam praised Dien Bien province’s efforts in maintaining and organising the Ban Flower Festival. Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam said that Dien Bien has a lot of potential to be exploited and promoted, including tourism potential and cultural tourism of ethnic groups.
Therefore, in the near future, Dien Bien needs to focus on calling and attracting investment to make Dien Bien Phu an attractive destination in the Northwest region in particular and Vietnam in general, the Deputy PM added.
This year’s event contained new programmes compared to previous years, with a series of art performances and exhibitions to take place at the same time as sports and games activities.
A book and photo exhibition featuring the traditional culture of Dien Bien’s ethnic groups, along with a series of art performances and a beauty contest were also organised.
The festival is part of activities to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the glorious Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954-2019), the 110th anniversary of the establishment of Dien Bien province (June 28, 1909-2019) and 70 years since the establishment of the provincial Party Committee (October 10, 1949-2019).
