Binh Dinh fishermen enjoy big catches on Lunar New Year

Many fishermen in the south-central province of Binh Dinh have enjoyed large catches of tiny shrimp on the first days of the Lunar New Year.

It takes fishing boats in Hai Minh Village in Quy Nhon City only a few hours to catch hundreds of kilos of tiny shrimp.

According to local residents, now is the time for tiny shrimp reproduction, so they usually gather inshore.

Fishing boats come to the sea for catching tiny shrimp in the morning and then come back Quy Nhon fishing port to sell the product to traders who will bring them to markets.

Some boats could catch tonnes of tiny shrimp each trip, earning more than VND10 million.

A kilo of tiny shrimp is priced VND15-20,000.

Nguyen Thi Gai, a local fisherman, said that her family had two fishing boats which have both enjoyed bumper catches these days.
