Another Vietnamese officer assumes peacekeeping duty in South Sudan

At the ceremony, Lieut. Col. Tinh expressed his honour to directly engage in UN peacekeeping activities and pledged to do well in his duty for the term as a contribution to carrying out Vietnam’s plan on participating in UN peacekeeping operations for 2015-2020.

Tinh was assigned to replace Major Do Thi Hang Nga, who has finished her one-year working term as a commanding officer in South Sudan.

In his speech, Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh asked Lt. Col. Tinh to learn from the experience of his comrades so as to perform well his duty in South Sudan.

In June 2018, the UN recognized the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations as one of four international training centres in the region and consented to carry out training under the three-party partnership, including Vietnam, the UN, and a partner country.

The selection of Vietnam as a training venue for UN peacekeeping forces in Southeast Asia shows the UN’s high regard for the nation’s commitment in UN peacekeeping operations.
